Comics making

I’ve always been comics obsessed. As a boy I read comics, collected comics, and even worked in a comic shop as my Saturday job.

So when I was asked by Cardiff-based Arts in Health organisation Re-Live if I’d help them develop a comic with a group of military veterans I jumped at the chance.

In 2022 we co-created Coming Home comic.

Each veteran storyteller was teamed with a professional comic artist to bring their story to life. My own role was as Art Director and Co-Editor.

Issue 1 features four powerful veterans’ mental health stories, dealing with PTSD, Moral Injury, Military Sexual Trauma and depression.

Coming Home has been stocked in comic shops in UK, USA, Ireland and Australia, and found a readership amongst civilians and veterans.

It is being used by mental health professionals as a conversation starter to support veterans to open up about their mental health.
